ILOILO CITY, Nov. 6 (PIA) --- Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas issued an executive order which created a communications team that will be handling the dissemination of correct information and on educating the public on how to avert the transmission of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
Treñas issued Executive Order (EO) No. 179, which organizes and creates the Iloilo City COVID 19-Measures Communications Team (CMCT).
“Effective dissemination of correct information is instrumental in educating the public thereby helping them develop good health habits and stemming the tide of COVID-19 transmission,” he said.
As per the EO, the CMCT is created to deliver effective communication strategies which can facilitate change in public behavior towards compliance with the COVID-19 measures set by the city government here.
Part of the team’s function is to report and submit recommendations on communication strategies that are suitable for designated sectors.
Likewise, the CMCT shall ensure that relevant and correct information on COVID-19 measures are disseminated in such a manner that all constituents of the Iloilo City Government are made aware of the same and that said information is understood clearly and accurately.
“We would like to request the public to be wary of the spread of fake news to prevent causing panic to the community,” Treñas said.
He added that the public should always check the legitimacy of what they read especially on social media. (JSC/LTP/PIA6 Iloilo)
