ILOILO CITY, Nov. 5 (PIA) – The head of the Constitutional Reform (CORE) Movement likens the campaign on making amendments to the Philippine Constitution to performing surgery.
National chairperson on CORE Movement lawyer Homer Vicente Revil clarified that constitutional reform is not “Charter-Change” or “Cha-Cha.”
“We are not revising the entire constitution, rather, we are only doing surgical and strategic amendments to the constitution,” he said via Zoom during the CORE Movement e-Kapihan held in Iloilo City recently.
He said that it aims to have a constitution that is reflective of the aspirations of the current generation and the succeeding generations .
Among those that he mentioned were giving of more resources to local government units, strengthening regional development councils, focusing on political and electoral reforms, and lifting economic restrictive provisions.
He said the constitutional reform will remove “cancerous provisions,” while retaining “democratic and republican concepts, principles, and democracy in the Philippines.”
The thrust of the CORE movement is to “campaign ang lobby to Congress and to push for awareness” with regard to certain amendments to the 1987 Constitution, said Revil.
Resource persons from the Center for Federalism and Constitutional Reform gave their presentations as well during the program via Zoom.
