DA engages farmers-coops, associations through entrep training

SAN FERNANDO CITY, Nov. 4 (PIA) -- The Department of Agriculture (DA) in the Ilocos, in partnership with the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) and the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) provided training in Business Plan Preparation and Business Management in Calasiao, Pangasinan.

The activity slated from Oct. 28 to 29 was aimed to capacitate, create an ambiance of entrepreneurship amongst organizations, and help the farmer-cooperatives and associations (FCAs) become competent business operators amid the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic.

“Through our Agribusiness and Marketing Assistance Division (AMAD)’s learning and development programs, we are very positive that our FCAs will recover from this current pandemic,” said DA-AMAD representative Rhoda Galvan.

According to Galvan, members of the six FCAs from the municipalities of the province of Pangasinan underwent the two-day training.

Further, the training helped the FCAs improve the old templates utilized in submitting necessary requirements which will bring significant inputs only on the needed information regarding the cooperative or association.

She also said that business plans and project proposals are among the requirements for the FCAs, thus will support and provide smoother access to the FCAs in availing assistance from the DA.

“They (FCA members) were trained to formulate their own business plans in a language that they understand so they can implement their programs and projects better,” she added.

During the activity, the members were also oriented on how to operate business, prepare financial statements and were given updates on obligations and taxation systems of BIR which will be applied during the FCAs operations.

Furthermore, ATI presented their module which worked on improving the mindset of the FCAs to embrace core values as a team.

In the succeeding weeks, DA said that the training will also be held in the provinces of Ilocos Sur and Ilocos Norte. (JCR/JPD/AHFF, PIA-1)
