Documentary PH film 'Kagitingan: A True Story of Valor' wins in international film fest

PASIG CITY, Nov. 30 (PIA) -- The documentary film “Kagitingan: A True Story of Valor” bagged the Best Screenplay award in the recently held International Film Festival Manhattan (IFFM) held in New York, USA.

According to the Philippine Army, the film recounts the heroic act of then Cpt. Arturo B. Ortiz during a firefight against a numerically superior enemy in Murcia, Negros Occidental in April 1990.

The award-winning film was written, directed and edited by 1st Lt. Bala Tamayo was among the 22 Filipino films nominated during the virtual event.

Aside from the Best Screenplay award, the film also bagged the IFFM Most Popular award besting hundreds of entries from across the globe and garnering the highest promo views.

According to Luis Pedron, Festival Director of the International Film Festival Manhattan the virtual festival gave them the opportunity of reaching a new audience beyond the borders of Manhattan with the theme “Digital Hope.”

Other countries represented are USA, Canada, Bulgaria, Estonia, India, Japan, Colombia, Spain, Germany, Macau, China, Russia, Italy, Myanmar, Tibet, Austria, Switzerland.

The topics and genre covered in the festival are the global pandemic due to the corona virus, senior issues, depression, health care system, beauty pageantry, military, war, crime, drama, and horror.  (PIA-NCR)
