DOST 10 launches 2020 NSTW via Talakayan sa PIA

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Nov. 25 (PIA) -- The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) -10 launched through "Talakayan sa PIA" media forum at SM City Cagayan de Oro the 2020 National Science and Technology Week starting November 23-27 with the theme, “Agham at Technolohiya: Sandigan ng Kalusugan, Kabuhayan, Kaayusan at Kinabukasan." 

DOST-10 Regional Director Alfonso Alamban said this year's NSTW celebration would be through online platforms like webinars, virtual exhibit of the latest technologies.

Meanwhile, 18 virtual fora and webinars related to livelihood and business, human resource development, health, and disaster preparedness are prepared by the department.

DOST-10 has observed that consumers and food processors alike are conscious about food safety especially that foods are ordered online nowadays. "Are they getting good quality food during delivery?" Director Alamban said.

In a related development, a number of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) have either stopped operation or reduced their manpower since the start of COVID-19 pandemic, Alamban pointed out. However, the DOST is committed to help these DOST SETUP beneficiaries to rise back.

One of the highlights of the 2020 NSTW is the launching of Optimizing Regional Opportunity for Business Excellence through Science and Technology and Innovation (ORO BEST), which aims for the academe and business sector to discuss concerns regarding research and product development.

ORO BEST Innovation program was mentioned in the World Intellectual Property Organization to have contributed to the innovation ranking from 100th to 50th.

Director Alamban also disclosed that all their programs have continued despite the COVID-19 pandemic for the MSMEs like the Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (SETUP), support to Community Empowerment thru Science and Technology (CEST), scholarships, and support to research.
