Kayapa veggie farmers get aid from DOLE

BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya, Nov. 8 (PIA) – Vegetable farmers in Kayapa town recently received financial assistance to boost theri livelihood.

Gerry Nicolas, DOLE information officer said P552,329.00 was recently turned-over to the LGU of Kayapa for some 34 Indigenous People's(IPs) through the agency's Kabuhayan Starter Kits (DKSK).

The LGU Kayapa serves as the agency's Accredited Co-Partner (ACP) for the implementation of the DKSK.

"Some 34 Indigenous People (IP) beneficiaries from various rural barangays in the town will benefit from the said grant, which also includes P140,000.00 as the LGU’s equity for its training expenses and another P1,904.00 for the GSIS coverage of the beneficiaries," Nicolas said.

He added that the beneficiaries of the DKSK program were engaged in vegetable gardening, regularly shipping their produce to Manila and to other cities in Luzon.

"But due to the pandemic, travel restrictions affected their business, prompting them to shift to other livelihood endeavors," Nicolas explained.

DOLE here has conducted a Business and Wor­k Improvement training for the beneficiaries to maximize their readiness to implement their livelihood while consequently being aware of the health and safety measures that should be followed in this time of pandemic.

The beneficiaries will now be engaged in other livelihood activities such as baking, carpentry, welding, manicure and pedicure.#(MDCT/BME/PIA 2-Nueva Vizcaya)
