Lanao del Norte reopens tourist sites under strict health protocols

ILIGAN CITY, Nov. 28 (PIA) - The province of Lanao del Norte has begun reopening its tourist sites under the 'new normal' to alleviate the economic impact of the pandemic in the tourism sector.

In Secretary Martin Andanar's CORDS-X Podcast, Provincial Governor Imelda "Angging" Quibranza-Dimaporo said she has allowed the various tourist destinations in the province to reopen after the region 10 Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) has given its permission.

She said the provincial IATF has inspected the sites before opening to ensure that safety and health measures are in place.

"Ang guidelines sa PIATF ug sa Department of Tourism ila man pud ning gecomply," she further said.

On the part of the tourists, the Governor explained that they must follow the health protocols outlined in the provincial ordinance which she emphasized was crafted "to protect the people of Lanao del Norte."

Dimaporo said tourists would be required to present a medical pass and that they cannot stay in the province for more than five days otherwise they will be subjected to a 14-day quarantine.

"We have to be extra careful," she added. According to her, nine COVID-19 related deaths in the province were caused by local transmission.

In September, the Coordinated Operations to Defeat Epidemic (CODE) team of the National Task Force on COVID-19 commended the provincial government of Lanao del Norte in managing the threat posed by COVID-19 and continuously enforcing necessary measures and health protocols to curtail the spread of COVID-19 in the communities.

"I am very proud nga sa region 10, ika duha ang Lanao del Norte sa mga probinsiya nga gamay ra ang cases, low-risk ang Lanao del Norte sa cases of COVID-19," Dimaporo proudly stated.
