BACOLOD CITY, Nov. 10 (PIA)— Bacolod City mayor Evelio Leonardia said the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) sectoral testing will continue to be held in the city in an effort to contain the virus.
“This will be continuing. As the need arises we will respond correspondingly,” he said.
Sectors that have the most contact with the community will be considered for the testing but it will be on a pocket size basis since the cases have already gone down, he noted.
Last week, a total of 2,383 market vendors were swabbed with 35 persons found to be positive for COVID-19 or a positivity rate of 1.47 percent.
According to Leonardia the three major markets in the city- Libertad, Burgos and Central Market are relatively safe.
“We will do things step-by-step and the Emergency Operation Center (EOC) will have it as a continuing activity,” he stressed.
He credited Major General (Retired) Mel Feliciano, chief implementer of the Visayas Inter-Agency Task Force for bringing down the cases of the virus here. From a daily of more than a hundred in the previous months, it gradually shrank to double digits in October and November.
Leonardia also expressed elation that the Bacolod COVID-19 Tracing System is picking up very well with registrants now reaching 316, 713 citizens and 6,303 establishments as of November 3.
He said he is happy that the tracing system registration has reached this figure reflecting the cooperation of Bacolodnons.
Leonardia said the cooperation of everyone is needed given the situation.
The mayor pointed out that first world countries like Germany, United States and others are still under devastation due to the dreaded virus.
He said it would be cliché for him to repeatedly ask for cooperation and that each one has a role in COVID-19 prevention, but he will continue to do so.
Leonardia urged the citizens to support the local governance and to refrain from engaging in politically motivated moves that, during this critical time, does not help. (JSC/Lljr/PIA6 Negros Occidental)
