MARAWI CITY, Nov. 29 (PIA) -- The speedy construction of Grand Padian Market with an ice plant inside the most affected area of the city continues even in the midst of the coronavirus disease pandemic.
With a total area of 9,757.2 square meters, the infrastructure project includes a dry and wet market and two buildings. The main building has 102 stalls while the annex building has 309.
Mayor Majul Gandamra said that with the numerous stalls to be constructed, displaced market vendors will be prioritized for the market stalls.
“Mabibigyan din natin ng mga pwesto ang ating mga displaced businessmen. They will be prioritized na mabigyan ng pwesto,” said Gandamra.
[We can provide space for our displaced businessmen. They will be prioritized to be given with marketing space.]
Gandamra further shared that the market has a modern design and will have an escalator and elevator for cargos.
“This Grand Market, I would say, is a modern Grand Market because we have the installation of escalators, elevators for the cargo. Ito ay state-of-the art na market,” he added.
The mayor is also confident that the timeline for the construction remains on track. He is also delighted with the progress of the rehabilitation works.
“I am very happy with the progress of the rehabilitation area in the ground zero dahil tayo po ay nakatutok [because we are focused on it.] In fact with the help of Sec. Del Rosario, Field Manager Asec Castro at tayo po ay palagi pong nakatutok dito sa [we are closely monitoring] ground zero so that we can beat the timeline given by the national government,” he said.
The construction of the public market is implemented by the local government of Marawi and funded through National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management – Marawi Recovery, Rehabilitation, and Reconstruction Program. (LELA/PIA ICIC)
