Moreno: Magnify Bonifacio's sacrifice thru unity amid pandemic

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Nov. 30 (PIA)--Deepening Andres Bonifacio’s sacrifice, Mayor Oscar Moreno urged Kagay-anons to participate in society’s efforts to win over evils that cause social divide especially in the midst of coronavirus disease (COVID)-19 pandemic during the commemoration of the 157th birth anniversary of Andres Bonifacio, November 30, here.

"Let’s reach out for one another because we are all in this together. The virus has taught us one thing that we should never forget, that we are not living in separate worlds, we are not living far apart from each other. We are all in the same boat," Moreno said.

In spite of challenges, the mayor said the city has fared much better than the others because of the element of teamwork where everybody embraced the problem as their own.

He cited the many efforts of the Department of Health (DOH), Northern Mindanao Medical Center (NMMC) and the national line agencies to ensure continued services especially to those who were severely affected with the implementation of community quarantine and the containment of COVID-19.

"Northern Mindanao Medical Center is here at the time when all the rest would vigorously avoid facing the virus, at the time when everybody would say no to face the virus, to confront the virus. Northern Mindanao Medical Center stood tall, they stood tall," Moreno added.

He also lauded the barangay health workers, community development volunteers, barangay nutrition scholars, Barangay Health Emergency Response Teams (BHERTs), purok leaders and even those who are not officials of barangays who fought against COVID-19.

Moreno said during the pandemic, politics became irrelevant and nonexistent. With the 8-month contagion there are "many moments of inspiration that we have seen,
moments of bravery, moments of courage, moments of sacrifice," he added.

The City Government of Cagayan de Oro celebrated the 157th Bonifacio Day with the theme, "Tapang at Kaligtasan, Tungo sa Malayang Lipunan" at El Pueblo A Sus Heroes Monument, Plaza Divisoria, here. (RTP/PIA10)
