Brgy 31 SK fosters mental health campaign amid contagion

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Nov. 28 (PIA)--Fighting the adverse effects of coronavirus disease (COVID)-19 contagion particularly on mental health, the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) of Barangay 31 here conducts various activities to boost mental health awareness and help the youth in diverting their anxieties to more productive activities.


"Agi'g pag-celebrate sa Linggo ng Kabataan, nag-initiate mi ug maayo nga tumong kabahin sa mental health awareness. Daghan akong nakita sa news and social media nga nagpakamatay gumikan sa kapait nga atong nasinati karon," Barangay 31 SK Chair Reymart Dragon said during the CORDS-X Podcast with Communications Sec. Martin Andanar, November 28. 

 

(In celebration of the Linggo ng Kabataan, we initiated a good campaign on mental health awareness because I have seen a lot of news and in social media that a lot of teenagers commit suicide due to the difficulties of this pandemic)


They also held fun games such as the Mobile Legend battles, TikTok challenge, sports activities that are allowed by the Inter Agency Task Force (IATF), and the Search for Most Clean Purok. 


He added that the activities are targeted to help the youth in relaxing their mind and body from doing their online or module classes. 

 

As assistance to the Barangay Council, the SK aided in the distribution of flyers and posting of tarpaulins in every corner of their barangay to heighten awareness on COVID-19 as well as they strictly impose the curfew and continuously urge residents to clean the area to prevent the spread of the virus. 


Putting emphasis on upholding good health during the pandemic, Barangay 31 SK Council conducts a feeding program since July 2020. 


Dragon said checking and maintaining the health of the youth is very important so they can strongly face the current health crisis. 


They also implemented one entry and exit points in the barangay to thoroughly monitor the persons going in and out the barangay. 

To further contain the spread of COVID-19, Dragon urges the residents of their barangay to observe and support the measures implemented by the barangay, and to always pray for safety among family members. (RTP/PIA10)
