BAGUIO CITY, Nov. 4 (PIA) – In continuing efforts to provide services to the vulnerable sectors especially at this challenging time of COVID pandemic, the National Nutrition Council (NNC) and the Cordillera Administrative Region Media Educators on Nutrition (CAR Menu) recently spearheaded a for persons with disabilities(PWDs).
Some 14 PWDs participated in this event where they learned more about mental health and good nutrition with cooking demonstration.
Dr. Gwendolyn Cayad of the Psychiatric Department of Baguio Hospital and General Medical Center talked on the importance of taking care of one’s mental especially with this pandemic when stress, fear and anxiety are increased.
Simple things can be done to cope with stress such as talking with others, getting in touch with relatives and friends or doing simple physical exercises, Cayad said.
Nutritionist Disney Dezyl Deponio lectured and demonstrated how to cook low cost but nutritious food.
The PWDs were taught how to cook sardines and vegetables which are common as relief goods, said Rita Papey, NNC-CAR regional program coordinator.
Noel May-ag, speaking in behalf of his fellow PWD participants, expressed gratitude to the organizers saying they have learned a lot like how to keep one’s mental health in this pandemic and cooking cheap but nutritious food.
The activity was done in coordination with the City Health Office and Persons with Disabilities Affairs Office. (JDP/JBZ- PIA CAR)
