Typhoon Ulysses affects Pangasinan

LINGAYEN, Pangasinan, Nov. 14 (PIA) - Typhoon Ulysses, the Philippines' 21st tropical cyclone for 2020, has affected 20 towns and 46 barangays in Pangasinan as it began pummelling Luzon on November 11.

As of the November 13 report, all evacuees have gone back to their homes except for 16 families or 71 individuals in Bayambang town who are still sheltered in evacuation centers.

Ulysses’ powerful winds reportedly caused some  trees to fall in provincial and barangay roads in the cities of San Carlos and Dagupan but all national roads remained passable to all types of vehicles.

The Provincial Engineers Office said  that partial report on damages to infrastructure  amounted to Php13,635,000.00.

Some 94 houses in six towns were partially damaged while two were totally damaged.

Communication lines and water supply were all operational but 20 muncipalities being serviced by electric distribution utility Central Pangasinan Electric Cooperative (CENPELCO)  experienced a 13-hour power outage during the onslaught of the typhoon on November 12.

In Dagupan City, Ulysses’ strong winds caused a storm surge that left sand along the stretch of the Tondaligan Beach baywalk area.

No casualty was reported in Pangasinan.

PDRMMO Chief Rhodyn Luchinvar Oro said the provincial government led by Governor Amado Espino III continuously monitor the weather situation in the province including the  San Roque Dam and river systems.

Meanwhile, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) continues to intensify its assistance to local government units  (LGUs) affected by typhoons.

In the Laging Handa Network Briefing, DSWD Spokesperson Irene Dumlao said the department has given out Php77-million on food assistance and non-food items as well as financial assistance to affected families of Typhoon Rolly.

“Out of the Php77-million, Php62 million came from DSWD. We continuously give assistance to LGUs to add to their inventory of  family food packs  and non food items,” Dumlao said on the November 11 episode. (AMB/VHS/PIA Pangasinan)
