ASF-affected hog raisers in La Union receive cash aid from LGU

SAN FERNANDO CITY, Dec. 23 (PIA) -- The local government unit (LGU) of Bangar provided cash aid to hog-raisers affected by African Swine Fever (ASF).

Mayor Joy Pinzon Merin, along with Municipal Agricultural Officer Regina Labiano, recently led the distribution of the localized ASF Indemnification Fund amounting to Php2,335,500.00.

A total of 314 hog raisers from 21 barangays in the said town received the financial assistance in a simple ceremony at the municipal mini-gym.

“Our LGU immediately exhausted all resources to cut the domino effect of ASF to other hog raisers. Moreover, the LGU created an assistance to further help and ease the worries of our hog raisers,” Mayor Merin said.

The hog raisers received PhP1,000.00 per culled weanling to adult pig while the suckling is PhP500.00.

“Each hog raiser was given a maximum of PhP20,000.00 regardless of the number of culled pigs to ensure that everyone gets the said assistance,” the mayor said.

The said fund is on top of the Department of Agriculture ASF Indemnification fund amounting to Php 5,000.00 per culled pig which will be given tentatively three to four months from the culled activity.

“LGU Bangar remains vigilant in monitoring activities to alleviate possible outbreak relating to ASF again,” the local chief executive said. (JCR/JPD, PIA La Union with reports from LGU Bangar)
