BCPO: A growing city needs more patrol cars

BACOLOD CITY, Dec. 21 (PIA) — Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) Acting Director Colonel Manuel Placido  said the BCPO needs new patrol cars to complement the city’s growth.

During the recent City Peace and Order Council Meeting (CPOC), he said part of the security package is the presence of the police in strategic areas of the city using patrol vehicles.

Placido did not specify how many patrol cars are currently functioning and how many are not, but stressed the need to prepare for police mobility as Bacolod is an urban and growth area.

He said the visibility of patrol cars on the streets is a major crime deterrent in any LGU.

He added that the growth of Bacolod City should be coupled with the maintenance of peace and order. It is ideal that each of the city’s 10 police stations should have one vehicle, he noted.

He revealed that the BCPO has received donations of two lots for Police Stations 7 and 10 while another one is in the works and may be completed by the first quarter of next year.

He said the two donations come from private donors while another one come from Brgy. Cabug that offered 600 square meters for Police Station 9 that will serve as an extension office.

Placido said Bacolod City is ‘safer than ever’ as crime rate is low due to the limited movement of people.

He urged the residents here to follow health protocols for protection against the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) even if they are not checked by the police.

“After all they are protecting their own health,” he said. (JSC/Lljr/PIA6 Negros Occidental)
