SAN FERNANDO CITY, Dec. 31 (PIA) -- The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) in the Ilocos reiterated fire safety tips to celebrate the holidays.
In the Kapihan sa Ilocos program held on Dec. 16, BFP-1 aims to extensively promote a zero fire incidence caused by sub-standard Christmas lighting equipment and displays as well as pyrotechnics or fireworks utilization.
This is also in conjunction with the Iwas Paputok Campaign of the Department of Health.
Capule added that Christmas decorations should not be placed near heat sources as well as lighting devices should not be positioned under carpets or rugs. This will affect heating which might cause fire.
She said these lighting devices should be located only near fire resistant areas of our homes.
She also advised the public to avoid purchasing Christmas lights without the Philippine Standard (PS) Quality and Import Commodity Clearance (ICC) seal sticker to ensure the quality of the product.
Moreover, Capule said that fireworks contain sulfur which might affect the health of children and repeated that should be kept out of their reach.
BFP stressed that lighting these fireworks should be far away from people, houses, electric poles or any structure that might ignite fire.
Both extinguishing agents and water should always be present and readily available just in case of emergency.
BFP’s support to the Iwas Paputok Campaign is aligned to their agency’s battlecry: ‘Safety is everybody’s responsibility.’ (JCR/JPD/AHFF, PIA-1)
