City gov’t to purchase 20 Japanese bikes for cops

ILOILO CITY, Dec. 4 (PIA) – The Iloilo City Government will purchase 20 Japanese bikes that will be provided to the Philippine National Police (PNP).

Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas said that the Japanese bikes will be utilized by the PNP personnel to patrol certain areas in the metropolis.

“This will be the start of our Cops on Bike Program,” he said, adding that these police personnel will patrol the esplanades, bike lanes, and plazas in the metro.

He said the "Cops on Bike Program" is part of the city government’s initiative to strengthen its status as the “Bike Capital of the Philippines.”

Meanwhile, Treñas said that the Tourism Promotions Board (TPB) will be providing Iloilo City with P9.9 million worth of funds for the city’s promotion as the country’s bike capital.

“Iloilo City is home to the longest protected bike lane in the Philippines and cycling has been an alternative form of transportation for the Ilonggos during the pandemic,” he added. (JSC/LTP/PIA6 Iloilo/Thumbnail photo courtesy of Jerry Treñas FB Page)
