DA distributes cash, food subsidy to farmers and fisherfolks in La Union 

SAN FERNANDO CITY, Dec. 31 (PIA) -- The Department of Agriculture (DA-RFO1) in the Ilocos distributed the Cash and Food Subsidy to Marginal Farmers and Fisherfolks (CFSMFF) to  La Union beneficiaries on Saturday.

 

According to DA-RFO1, the ceremonial distribution amounting to P5,000 each was led by Secretary William D. Dar and were given to the 165 eligible beneficiaries.

 

Further, the CFSMFF’s breakdown is P3,000.00 in cash and P2,000.00 worth of egg, chicken and rice which can be claimed via an e–voucher.

 

“Eligible beneficiaries for the program include corn, sugarcane, and coconut farmers, fisherfolks, and Indigenous Peoples or IPs who are all registered in the Farmers and Fisherfolks Registry System,” said DA-RFO1 Regional Director Nestor Domenden.

 

Moreover, beneficiaries must have an area of not more than one hectare and must come from municipalities under 4th, 5th, and 6th income classification and from cities under 5th and 6th income classification, according to the implementing guidelines.

 

Beneficiaries must not also be covered by any social amelioration programs for other commodities like the Department of Social Welfare and Development or any other government agencies.

 

In a regional scope, the allocation for the said project amounts to P70.1 million which will benefit a total of 14,020 individuals in 49 identified municipalities.

 

As a component of the project, accredited cooperatives and associations will be tapped by DA as suppliers of goods.

 

“We would like to extend our deepest gratitude to our partner-agencies such as the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, Philippine Coconut Authority, National Commission on Indigenous Peoples and the Sugar Regulatory Authority who made this program possible,” said Domenden.

 

The agencies accumulated a total budget of P4.5 billion from the P6.5 billion on the social amelioration program stimulus package alloted for agriculture under the Bayanihan to Heal as One Act of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s administration.

 

As part of the distribution, Sec. Dar together with Domenden also distributed various farm machinery worth P37 million. (JCR/JPD/AHFF, PIA-1)
