CALOOCAN CITY, Dec. 30 (PIA) -- In line with the 124th observance of the martyrdom of National Hero Dr. Jose Rizal today, Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Secretary Martin Andanar encouraged all Filipinos to embody the values and principles that defined the great Filipino polymath.

"We enjoin every Filipino in commemorating the 124th anniversary of the martyrdom of our national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal," Andanar said.

"May we remain inspired by and continue to embody the values and principles that defined Dr. Jose Rizal - his love for our country, compassion for others, and intellectual prowess - as we collectively heal, recover, and rise as one nation," he added.

He said Rizal's life and works are testaments of how a single person’s deep love for his country and his fellowmen influenced the desire for change, independence and normalcy.

"Dr. Rizal dedicated his life not just to writing novels that would influence our consciousness and national identity, but also in doing work as a physician and a philanthropist, in service to his fellowmen," Andanar said.

"Being a beacon of hope, unity, patriotism, valor, and service to the country, may Dr. Rizal’s legacy continue to burn within the hearts of every Filipino, especially now as we face the challenges brought by social ills, natural disasters, and the COVID-19 pandemic," he added.

To recall, Rizal Day 2020 is celebrated with the theme “Jose Rizal: Inspirasyon sa Pagbangon at Paghilom ng Bayan.” (PIA NCR)
