Olivarez to barangay officials:  Monitor 'balikbayans' for signs of new COVID-19 strain

PARAÑAQUE CITY, December 28 (PIA) – Parañaque City Mayor Edwin Olivarez ordered officials of the city’s 16 barangays to be vigilant by strictly monitoring all balikbayans who are in their jurisdiction.   following the discovery of the new Covid-19 strain abroad.

In a memorandum released on Sunday, Olivarez said that while the local government has been strictly implementing the health protocols, the city government must further strengthen its efforts in order to prevent possible community transmission.

According to the mayor, barangays must keep a close eye on residents who recently returned to the country, specifically those coming from the United Kingdom, South Africa, and Europe

Olivarez instructed the barangay officials to immediately inform and coordinate with the City Health office any untoward findings with regard to ’balikbayans’ that may have shown signs of carrying the dreaded virus.

Currently, the Philippine Government has issued an extension to the earlier ban on incoming travelers coming from the UK. (PIA-NCR)
