PNR unveils newest trains

PASIG CITY, Dec. 24 (PIA) -- The Philippine National Railways (PNR) unveiled its newest train sets at the Manila Harbour Centre on Wednesday, December 23.

Transportation Secretary Arthur P. Tugade led the unveiling ceremony, together with Philippine Ports Authority General Manager Jay Santiago, officials from the Indonesian Embassy, the PT INKA (Indonesian manufacturer), Department of Transportation, PNR, and Harbour Centre.

According to the PNR, the three locomotives and 15-passenger coaches are part of the PNR management strategy of re-fleeing since 2018.

The newest delivery completes the 37 total railcars in addition to the three locomotives procured in 2018.

The re-fleeting project will increase PNR capacity to carry passengers with a capacity of up to 1,250 per set, per trip and has a maximum design speed of 120 km/h.

The PNR added that the new diesel hydraulic locomotive has a water wading capacity of 18 inches.

The trains service the line’s routes from Tutuban (Manila) to FTI (Taguig City) and from Malabon City to FTI. (PIA-NCR)
