Zambo Norte youth leader concerned over peers’ social media behavior

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Dec 18 (PIA) – A youth leader from Zamboanga del Norte is concerned over the internet behaviors of many youths these days, especially during the pandemic.

“The youth today are widely immersed in gadgets, they are always online. But are their online activities productive?” said Maidelle Lutherine Junne Cabrera, Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Federation President of Pres. Manuel Roxas municipality during an interview over Radyo Pilipinas’ Network Briefing.

Cabrera presented her concern after observations from fellow youth, including her siblings.

“It is concerning. They are always online playing online games, and there are youth who post practically anything on social media,” she said.

The SK official said these things concern her since these activities have risks.

"We need to orient them that they should not post every activity on social media, and that they should be informed especially about the risks," she said.

The SK Federation of Roxas is planning to conduct a series of activities geared towards social media responsibility. The project is dubbed the “Think Before You Click” campaign which aims to educate the youth to become more productive netizens.

Other advocacies of the SK Federation include addressing teen pregnancy and the use of illegal drugs.

Cabrera meanwhile calls on the youth to take active part in the campaigns and not be laxed.

“There are some youths who are out of control, but we are working on getting them back on track,” Cabrera said. The SK Federation is working on institutionalizing local ordinances to include curfew for minors and the liquor ban. (RVC/DIS/PIA9-ZAMSULTA)
