DAVAO CITY, Dec. 29 (PIA) – Some six (6) barangays in the Municipality of Kiblawan in Davao del Sur have been declared as drug-free.

Kiblawan Mayor Carl Jason Rama said that from the assessment of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), the six cleared barangays were among the 14 barangays in Kiblawan that were identified as affected by illegal drugs.

Rama said that PDEA together with the Philippine National Police was supposed to conduct illegal drug operations on the remaining eight barangays, but was halted due the earthquake incident last year and the current COVID-19 pandemic.

He said that the local government unit has also created an association to fight against illegal drugs, and has implemented a community-based rehabilitation program for the people who use drugs (PWUDs) under the LGU’s peace and order program.

The LGU has also continued holding sports and skills training and social services and has provided an assistive tool to check on their drug intake. (PIA-XI/Samantha Jabol)
