BULALACAO, Oriental Mindoro, Jan. 27 (PIA) -- Around 120 onion farmers in this town recently received 445 pouches of onion seeds given by the provincial government of Oriental Mindoro.
The local government spent around P1.2 million to help farmers in the production of onions in the town of Bulalacao. It is the only municipality in the province whose farmers are mostly engaged in onion farming.
The project is part of the recovery plan by the Office of the Provincial Agriculture to provide livelihood to farmers who are currently affected by COVID-19 pandemic.
According to Agrotechnology Division Officer-In-Charge Supervising Agriculturist Venerando M. Sanchez, Jr., the distribution of seeds is one of the programs of the provincial government to help the agriculture sector.
Meanwhile, Bulalacao Municipal Agriculturist Romel De Guzman said they would continue to strengthen their support to local farmers.
One of the recipients of onion seeds, Ernel Cabrillos, also a member of ‘Samahan ng Magpapatubig ng Cambunang’, expressed his gratitude to the local government, as he said this is additional aid for them. (LTC/PIA-OrMin)
