ANAHAWAN, Southern Leyte, Jan. 5 (PIA) -- A road in the central part of this pacific town finally got the major facelift it deserved after more than 50 years of neglect, according to Litoy Timbang, a Kagawad of barangay Poblacion, where the road is located.
The street was even older than him, for as far as he can remember since he gained consciousness, the bad condition of the passageway was already there, Timbang recounted in a recent media tour to the place, along with some members of civil society organizations (CSOs).
Construction for the much-improved road stretch, which served as a vital link to the hospital and a frontage of the church, was funded under the 2019 assistance to municipalities (AM) program of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), it was learned.
The rehabbed access road cost P4.978 million for the length of 465.2 linear meters, but the contractor added an extra meter, so the actual length became 466.2 linear meters.
Work began February 26, 2020 with a target date of completion on September 30, but again, the project was finished September 28, or two days ahead of schedule, Francis Aguilar, representative of contractor, JRM Construction and Supply, disclosed during the interaction at the Mayor’s office.
Kagawad Timbang thanked Mayor Roberto Loquinte and the DILG for the development, vowing that the barangay LGU will exert efforts at helping maintain the repaired street for the use of the next generation.
Meanwhile, Mayor Loquinte shared that another DILG-financed project, this time under the 2020 assistance to municipalities, will be implemented beginning by the last week of this month.
The project was also an access road in the upper portion of the town, costing P6.5 million, and it was scheduled for bidding last week, December 30, Mayor Loquinte said. (ldl/mmp/PIA8-Southern Leyte)
