DOST-SETUP client in Dgte gets license to produce enhanced 'nutribun'

DUMAGUETE CITY, Jan. 5 (PIA) -- The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) has granted the license to produce the enhanced version of “nutribun” in Dumaguete City to one of its clients under the Small Enterprise Upgrading Program (SETUP) in Negros Oriental.

Saint’s Baked Delights located in Lower Batinguel, Dumaguete City became the official technology licensee of the enhanced nutribun in the city after it submitted all documentary requirements to the department and passed the virtual site inspection conducted by the DOST-Food and Nutrition Research Institute (FNRI).

The SETUP beneficiary also completed a training on “nutribun” production on Oct. 22 to 23, 2020.

The “nutribun” was a popular bread during the 70s which was distributed to children to combat malnutrition.

The enhanced “nutribun” was virtually launched by DOST-FNRI in July last year.

The new version of the “nutribun” contains 32kcal, 7g of dietary fiber and 88g carbohydrates.

It has 18g protein, 264mg of calcium, 6mg of iron, 461mg of potassium, 123mcg of iodine, 2mg zinc and 223mcg Vitamin A which is 59 percent, 40 percent, 60 percent, 30 percent, 100 percent, 30 percent, and 60 percent of Recommended Daily Nutrition Intake (RNI) for children aged 6-9 years old, respectively.
