DTI-7 intensifies advocacy on e-commerce

CEBU CITY, January 30 (PIA) --- The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Region 7 strengthened the advocacy on their e-commerce program to help boost local businesses as they move forward under the new normal.

In an interview during the “Straight from the Source” program of the Philippine Information Agency-7, DTI Cebu Chief of Small Medium Enterprise (SME) Development Marivic Aguilar explained that many businessmen have shifted to online services during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“DTI is trying to help even to small businesses which are now using social media platforms in selling their products. Amid challenges in online businesses, it became easier for us to convince people to change their consumer habits,” Aguilar said.

“The e-commerce industry is now accelerating unlike (during) the pre-COVID situation. Although we already started it before, but now it is really increasing,” she added.

Meanwhile, DTI-7 is now promoting programs that will capacitate business so they can survive and stay relevant amid the pandemic.

One is the “Sugbo Negosyo,” a microenterprise assistance program of the Cebu Provincial Government in partnership with DTI and Mandaue Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Under this program are the following categories:

  • Category A - Negosyong Padayonon which establishes microenterprises that need recovery assistance and enhancement to receive P50,000 worth of goods, equipment or raw materials.
  • Category B - Produktong Sugboanon to help aspiring microentrepreneurs who want to engage in manufacturing or processing of products to receive P20,000 worth of goods, equipment, and raw materials.
  • Category C - Mga Serbisyo ug Ginagmayng Patigayon for the microentrepreneurs engaged in trading or services to receive P10,000 worth of goods, equipment, and raw materials.

As of Dec. 15, 2020, a total of 8,250 beneficiaries have been qualified with a total of P97,990 worth of Sugbo Negosyo Digital Cards distributed.

Another program being pushed by DTI is the Livelihood Seeding Program - Negosyo Serbisyo sa Barangay (LSP-NPB) which allows a wider reach of business development assistance by bringing the government closer to the people through partnership between the local government units and DTI.

LSP-NPB will provide individual package of livelihood kits worth between P5,000 to P8,000 containing items that will help qualified affected individuals to restore and improve their businesses in case of catastrophic events such as epidemics and pandemics.

In Cebu, the livelihood or Negosy kit is worth P6,000.

To date, DTI-7 has distributed a total of 776 negosyo kits amounting to P4,656,000. (hfg/PIA7)
