Guv appeals to the public to avoid mass, public gatherings

ILOILO CITY, Jan. 29 (PIA6) – Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor, Jr. appealed to the public to avoid mass or public gatherings, amidst the surge of cases of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in the province.

Defensor said these prohibitions are contained in his previous Executive Orders and it should remain implemented.

“Kun magtipon kita, dira mismo gahalin ang transmission (Gathering is the main cause of the transmission),” he said, adding that the way only way to prevent the spread of the virus is to prevent the gathering of people to celebrate certain occasions like birthdays, fiestas, among others.

He reminded the Ilonggos to always observe the minimum health protocols against COVID-19 like the wearing of face masks and face shields, physical distancing, and regular washing of hands especially when going to public places like the markets.

“We should not be complacent, he said, as the COVID-19 virus is still here around us,” he added.

Meanwhile, Iloilo Province has recorded 588 confirmed COVID-19 cases for this month alone, as of Jan. 28, 2021. (JSC/LTP/PIA6 Iloilo)
