LAOAG CITY, Jan 31 (PIA) – Under the new normal, the province of Ilocos Norte will commemorate its 203rd foundation anniversary on February 2, 2021.
This year, the provincial government, through the Ilocos Norte Tourism Office, will launch the first Tan-ok ni Ilocano Film Festival and inauguration of new infrastructure projects under the administration of Governor Matthew Marcos Manotoc.
The film festival will showcase the strength and pride of the people of Ilocos Norte through the lens of local filmmakers in the province.
Entries are screened and will be available for watching at the La Tabacalera Ilocano Lifestyle Center and Paoay Sand Dunes on February 1 and 2, respectively.
“This is the first time [in all our celebrations] that we focused on a documentary format. So this is a good exercise for our filmmakers and beneficial for us as well because we can document our present social condition as narrated by our people-those who are living the story,” Provincial Tourism Officer Ianree B. Raquel said.
The film festival is a rebrand of the “Tan-ok” Showdown of festivals held annually.
Apart from the documentaries, Ilokanos will also witness the inauguration of the renovated “La Tabacalera” in Laoag City and the soft opening of the Filipino-Chinese Friendship Park in the municipality of Paoay on February 2.
In a press briefing, Gov. Manotoc shares his vision of making the “La Tabacalera” in Laoag City as the newest food park in the city while the Friendship Park is dedicated to the longstanding friendship between the Ilokano and Chinese community in the province.
Some activities slated for the provincial anniversary are Product Familiarization Tour, Ilocano Creatives Fest, Ilocano Culinary Heritage Competition and Exhibit, a thanksgiving mass, and fluvial parade. (JCR/VHS/MJTAB PIA ILOCOS NORTE)
