QUEZON CITY, Jan. 31 (PIA) -- Agriculture Secretary William Dar has recognized the role of the Bureau of Plant Industry (BPI) in bringing positive growth in the crop sector amidst the presence of COVID-19 pandemic.
“Let me again recognize your passion and energy, and your contributions amidst the pandemic,” Dar said during the celebration of the 91st Founding Anniversary of the BPI on Thursday, Jan. 28.

Dar said despite the ‘perfect storm’ that hit the agriculture sector in the last quarter of 2020, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) reported that the crop subsector posted positive 1.5 percent growth. An indication that the agriculture sector remains resilient.
He said this congruent challenge is now impacting all food supply this month. He said there are initiatives to mobilize all regions to bring in their agricultural produce in Metro Manila to augment the high prices of commodities in the market
“I-focus natin sa high-value agriculture at iba’t ibang export commodities na dapat tulungan natin from various services as mandated by laws,” he added.
During the ceremony, Sec. Dar also led the awarding of special recognition to outstanding employees and divisions, and the oathtaking of 15 newly hired and promoted BPI personnel. (PIA NCR)
