ILOILO CITY, Jan. 30 (PIA) - - The Iloilo City government initiated a simulation exercise (SIMEX), January 28, as part of its preparation for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccination roll-out in the city.
Iloilo City COVID Team Spokesperson Jeck Conlu said this is a first in a series of simulation exercises that the city government is planning to conduct in every district of the city prior the actual day of the vaccination to help improve procedures in the vaccination sites.
“So buot silingon kung ano man di ang aton nga flow malain ini siya sa lain naman nga district because lain naman ang set-up sang every school, every university nga gamiton naton. Ini nga Simex possible balikan naton ini prior pa sang final ukon sa aton D-Day para sa aton vaccination (This means simulation exercise will depend on the venue university. We might go back to this Simex prior to the D-Day for our vaccination)," said Conlu.
The first SIMEX was held at the Central Philippine University located in Jaro District which according to Conlu has the biggest population among the districts in the city.
He said their target for the next SIMEX maybe next week, is in Mandurriao area.
Around 500 volunteers and 115 vaccinators composed of nurses and midwives took part in the vaccination dry run.
Of the 500 participants, 100 received free flu shots from the city government to experience the actual injection as part of the simulation process.
Mayor Jerry Treñas, who observed the activity, said there may have been challenges, but assured to look at the real situation to implement improvement before the vaccine roll out.
He said that aside from CPU there are other vaccination areas that they are looking into such as Ateneo, John B. Lacson Foundation University, University of San Agustin and West Visayas State University.
Treñas also thanked barangay officials who came and observed what happens during the simulation activity which included all the steps to be undertaken during the actual vaccination.
For Kagawad Catalino Palomo of Brgy. Magsaysay, City Proper, whatever he has observed during the dry run will help in his vaccine decision later as he has still doubts about getting the COVID 19 vaccine.
On the contrary, another observer, 56-year-old Brgy. Kagawad Gloria Jardeleza of Rizal Pala-Pala, said she is very willing to get the vaccine to protect her from COVID 19.
Treñas, on behalf of the Iloilo City government, has already signed a multilateral agreement for the purchase of 600,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccines. (JSC/laf/PIA6 Iloilo)
