Region 9 assures intensified campaign to end terrorism

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Jan 28 (PIA) – As the fight against ending the local Communist Terrorists Groups (CTGs) continues, the Regional Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict in Region 9 (RTF-ELCAC 9) Strategic Communication Cluster also continues its efforts in the campaign to end the CTGs in the region.

In the recent meeting conducted by the RTF-ELCAC 9 StratCom Cluster headed by the Philippine Information Agency (PIA9), Regional Director Noemi Edaga highlighted that based from the accomplishments from the previous years, the government is already winning against the CTGs. “However, we should be more encouraged and persistent to strengthen the campaign against the CPP-NPA for both parties want to win,” Edaga added.

PIA 9 highlighted the establishment of Barangay Information Officers Network (BION), which is also one of the accomplishments of Department of Health (DOH), Department of Interior Local Government (DILG) and the Local Government Units (LGUs) that helps the StratCom cluster to have more multipliers in delivering important information to the communities.

Moreover, the meeting aims to enjoin all the member agencies of the cluster to create a communication plan for the next strategies and programs to sustain the efforts despite the challenges brought by the pandemic. National Intelligence Coordinating Agency (NICA) Assistant Regional Director for Counter Intelligence D’Fernando Echeverria commended the accomplishments of the cluster. “What we need to do now since the CTG affects our communities, we (the government) should be the one to end them, so that by 2022 there will be no more CTGs,” he added.

The future plans of the StratCom Cluster 9 involve more interventions for the Indigenous People (IPs) down to the grassroots community in the region. Member agencies pledged to fulfill all their commitments as communication multipliers to help the community. Furthermore, RD Edaga encouraged the members to function as they are all communicators, “we have to work and continue our punches against the communist-terrorist groups for a better future for our loved ones, family and community,” she added.
