Six Basilan students receive SciTech scholarship in BARMM

ISABELA CITY, Basilan, Jan 30 (PIA) –Six Moro students from Basilan took their oath as scholars during the recent culmination Program of the 2nd Founding Anniversary of BARMM held in Lamitan City.
 
During the oath taking ceremony, these six students pledged to give their best efforts to maintain the scholarship award until completion of their chosen degree program. They also pledged to abide by the policies of the program and be responsible in submission of the required documents and reports even during their service period.
 
The students have also received their financial assistance for the first semester of school year 2020-2021 in the amount of P40,000 or equivalent to P8,000 per month.


 
Engr. Omar Marzoc, Provincial Director of MOST-BARMM said that for the next semester and succeeding school year, the scholars will open their account at Land Bank Philippines and will directly receive their monthly financial assistance through their ATMs.
 
Engr. Marzoc, said during the ceremony that there was a total of 84 students who took the qualifying exam for Bangsamoro Assistance for Science Education (BASE) on October 2020 and only six successfully passed the said exam.
 
He added that BASE Program is a pilot program of the MOST-BARMM headed by Engr. Aida M. Silongan that aims to provide financial assistance to qualified students taking up Science and Technology Courses.
 
Engr. Marzoc explained to the scholars during their orientation at MOST-BARMM Office in Isabela City that part of their commitment as scholars is to serve the BARMM and Bangsamoro people when they finished their degree and if they should leave the country before the end of their service period, they will refund the financial grant they received from MOST BARMM, which will be used by other scholars in need of assistance.

 
Scholars were very grateful for the opportunity knowing that they are the luckiest students who received this grants for their education. They also thanked the BARMM government for their efforts in providing assistance to the Bangsamoro people especially for the education.
 
“I am grateful to be one of the recipients of this MOST scholarship and I thanked the Bangsamoro government for their efforts,” said Al-Kashmir Asikin, a BS Environmental Engineering student in WMSU and from Isabela City.
 
Meanwhile, other scholars are Nor Yasmin Salain, BS Nursing student at BASC, Hamoudie Akanul, BS Nursing student at BASC, Al-Ghazee Angulo, BS Nursing at BASC, Nurava Abubakar, BS Mathematics at BASC and Nadzmia A Aahang from Lamitan City. (RVC/NDR/PIA9-Basilan)
