DavNor PDRRMC aims to sustain “zero-casualty” during calamities

DAVAO DEL NORTE, Jan. 27 (PIA) – The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) of Davao del Norte aims to sustain “zero-casualty” in times of crisis through preparedness.

During Pakigsayod on January 27, 2021, PDRRMC office-in-charge, Ms. Glenda Delideli, said that the office is constantly preparing for crisis.

“Mas busy siguro mi kung wala pay disaster tungod kay kung dili mi busy, mas grabe ang result sa crisis (We are busier before the disaster because if we aren’t, the result of the crisis will be worse),” she explained.

“Mao na nga atong ginapangamdaman nga walay bisag unsang mahitabo. Zero casualty must be sustained. Mao mana ang remarkable gain gud nato sa Davao del Norte sukad-sukad (We are always preparing so that zero casualty is sustained since that is Davao del Norte’s remarkable gain ever since),” she added.

As such, she said PDRRMC personnel are constant undergoing refresher trainings. As well, the radio communication towers are undergoing maintenance every week, and the other instruments are solar-powered to ensure functionality in times of disaster.

PDRRMC Early Warning Unit Head, Eric Rosillo, said that the ultimate goal is to prevent death through mitigation, prevention, and disaster response.

“Dako kaayo mi ug responsibilidad sa pre-disaster activities kay we are preparing the community as well as the government nga andam kung naay disaster mahitabo (We have a huge responsibility in the pre-disaster activities because we are preparing the community as well as the government in case disaster happens),” he said.

He listed that aside from the strategies, flood monitoring cameras, and emergency mass warning sirens were put in place, and community engagement in the early warning system has been strengthened.

“We embrace the technology, and we also embrace the local technologies,” he added.

On top of mitigation, prevention, and disaster response, there is a recovery and rehabilitation stage which seeks to revive the livelihood of the community as well as to relieve the psychological impact of the disaster.

During the current COVID19 pandemic, Delideli said that PDRRMC is involved in the transportation COVID19 patients, conducting of decontamination, and management and control of procurement logistics.

In addition, PDRRMC is involved in the management of the African Swine Fever (ASF). (Jan Vincent Leuterio/PIA-XI)
