DAVAO CITY, Jan. 28 (PIA)- A leading health official in Davao City is hoping that Davao City will have lesser new COVID-19 cases before Valentines Day (Feb. 14).
“Ato lang i-ampo na unta bag-o muabot ang Valentines day ato nang mapaubos hinay hinay ana atong kaso sa Davao so we can celebrate happily Valentines Day, (We pray that before Valentines Day our cases in Davao City will be reduced so we can celebrate Valentines Day happily),” Dr. Ashley Lopez, focal person of Davao City’s Task Force COVID-19
However, Dr. Lopez said they are expecting the post-holiday surge in Davao City will be felt until mid February.
He also hopes that Davao City will still be under a General Community Quarantine.
“Naga hope lang ko na dili pa ta mag level down to MGCQ kay murag lisod pa kaayo tungod sa atong current cases karon sa Davao daghan-daghan pa, (I am hoping that we won’t level down to MGCQ it its still difficult becausef the current cases now in Davao are still quite many),"
Dr. Lopez disclosed that the positivity rate is still high in Davao. From January 10 to January 24 the positivity rate in the city hovers around 11.8%, the ideal threshold according to World Health Organization (WHO) is at 5% or less.
“Daghan pa kaayo tag transmissibility or capability of transmission sa atong community, more than 50% of our cases came households, community, (Our transmissibility or capability of transmission in our community is still high, more than 50% of our cases came from households in the community),” Lopez said.
“If our positivity rate is high we should not be complacent or to loosen up particularly on people who are allowed to go out of their houses,” the City’s COVID-19 Task Force chief said. (PIA/RG Alama)
