CALOOCAN CITY, Feb. 3 (PIA) -- Caloocan City Mayor Oca Malapitan on Tuesday assured visiting Cabinet members of the National Task Force against COVID-19 that the city will be adhering to the guidelines set by the NTF for the vaccine rollout soon.
“Ngayong nakatutok po tayo sa pagdating ng bakuna, asahan po ninyo na kami sa Caloocan ay susunod sa guidelines ng NTF,” Malapitan said during the Coordinated Operations to Defeat Epidemic (CODE) visit in the city to check its readiness for the coronavirus vaccine implementation expected to happen this month.
In attendance during the CODE visit are Vaccine Czar Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr., Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles, regional agency officials, Malapitan, and other local government officials.
“Batid namin na mahalaga ang pagtutulungan ng bawat isa sa laban na ito,” the mayor added.
Malapitan also said they are tapping the churches in Caloocan to augment the city’s manpower in the vaccine rollout.
For her part, Caloocan COVID-19 coordinator Dr. Rachel Basa said for the vaccine plan implementation, the city has initially identified 44 sites and six hospitals as vaccination areas.
“Out of the six hospitals [in the city], four are private hospitals and two are LGU [local government-managed] hospitals,” Basa said.
“Also identified are four national government agency vaccination sites, which include the Department of Education, the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, the Philippine National Police, and the Bureau of Fire Protection totaling 54 vaccination sites,” she added.
The official also reported that city purchased eight vaccine refrigeration units capable of maintaining from 2°C and 8°C for extended hours; two vaccine refrigerators that can cater to -70°C; and two more cold storage units that can accommodate -20°C.
“We will also be purchasing vaccine carriers and vaccine transporters, which can accommodate -70 degrees if and when needed. Ocular inspection was also done in the two LGU hospitals to ensure that there will be enough storage facility,” Basa added.
She, however, cited that some of the logistics will be provided by the DOH but will be augmented by the local government including the AIF kit, thermal gun, vaccine refrigerators and carriers that will be used during the vaccination.
Malapitan, meanwhile, appealed to currently unemployed nurses in the city to volunteer their services for the free vaccine program. (PIA NCR)
