CALOOCAN CITY, Feb. 3 (PIA) -- A Cabinet official belonging to the COVID-19 Coordinated Operations to Defeat Epidemic (CODE) team who visited Caloocan City on Tuesday lauded its local government for effectively securing at least 600,000 doses of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) vaccine from British pharmaceutical firm AstraZeneca.

“Ang mg initiatives ng Caloocan ay mayroon na silang nasecure na 600 thousand doses na bakuna ng AstraZenica sa pamamagitan ng tripartite agreement,” Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles said.

Nograles said they are visiting local government units to ensure that national and local government plans and strategies are all aligned.

“Itong ginagawa naming pag-iikot ng [NTF] vaccine cluster ng IATF [Inter-agency Task Force] ay isang paraan para maset-up natin ang ground[work] through the LGUs,” he said.

“Nakasalalay sa mga LGUs amg success ng ating vaccination rollout. Andito tayo ngayon para i-align ang lahat ng action plan at strategies natin,” he added.

For his part, Caloocan City Mayor Oca Malapitan said the development is part of the local government’s efforts to pursue its planned COVID-19 vaccination program.

“Nakikipag-ugnayan tayo sa mga pharmaceutical company upang matiyak na makakakuha tayo ng bakuna pag ito ay aprubado na ng Inter-Agency Task Force at Food and Drug Administration,” Malapitan said.

He said city residents are assured of free COVID-19 vaccines once the rollout begins this month.

The Caloocan City Government has set aside P125 million for the inoculation of its residents.

The city is also considering the allocation of an additional P1 billion for the initiative which they intend to obtain through a loan. (PIA NCR)
