DAR Albay distributes swine, feeds to agri beneficiaries

LEGAZPI CITY, Feb 1 (PIA) – Some 56 farmers from Hacienda San Miguel Island in Tabaco, Albay who are members of the Hacienda Tabaco Farmers Association received added aid from the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) to augment their income.

They are beneficiaries of the Swine Breeding Project under the Convergence on Livelihood Assistance for ARB’s Project (CLAAP).

The project aims to augment the income of the beneficiaries over and above their regular income from the produce of the agricultural lands that they till.

The team from DAR -Albay Provincial Office delivered a total of 56 gilts, 168 sacks of feeds and several boxes of multi-vitamins to the beneficiaries who have been eagerly awaiting the turn-over.

In her message to the beneficiaries, OIC-Provincial Agrarian Reform Program Officer I Patricia Rastrullo emphasized that “the ultimate vision of DAR is to see our agrarian reform beneficiaries increase both their production and income after the award of the land and a package of support services.”

Chief Agrarian Reform Program Officer (CARPO) Herbert Tengco also reminded the beneficiaries that under the terms which were mutually agreed upon between HATAFA and its members, the beneficiary awarded with a gilt shall have the obligation to pay back to the association two gilts.

One of which shall form part of the income of the Agrarian Reform Beneficiary Organization (ARBO) and the other to be re-distributed to other members.

This roll-over scheme assures that all members of the ARBO shall have the opportunity to become a beneficiary of the project.

Speaking on behalf of the HATAFA, Chairman Adelina Balingbing expressed her gratitude to the DARPO Albay team for having chosen their organization as a beneficiary of the project.

“Our organization will perform our obligation under the project more than what is expected of us so that in the near future we shall continue to enjoy the benefits that the DAR envisions for its beneficiaries,” she said.

During the turn-over ceremony, a veterinarian likewise explained to the beneficiaries the proper care of the gilts to productively benefit from its breeding. (SAA/DARAlbay-PIA5/Albay)
