Leyte creates COVID-19 Vaccination Committee

PALO, Leyte, Feb. 4 (PIA) - Leyte Governor Leopoldo Dominico L. Petilla signed EO No. 01-02-2021 on January 25, 2021, creating the Leyte Provincial COVID-19 Vaccination Committee and Sub-Committees.

This was announced by Governor Petilla during the February 3 meeting of the Province of Leyte Inter-Agency Task Force on COVID-19 at the View Deck of MacArthur Park Memorial Shrine.

In his EO, Governor Petilla said that in order to address the prevailing crisis, several COVID-19 vaccines are now being developed and distributed, some classified as “authorized for emergency use,” while others are in various stages of trial or testing prior to approval.

The Province of Leyte is committed to procure COVID-19 vaccines for its populace qualified to be vaccinated, taking into consideration the safety, efficacy and cost.

In view of the foregoing, the Province of Leyte deem it necessary to create a COVID-19 Vaccination Committee for the advantageous procurement, safety, efficacy and inclusive rollout thereof.

The Committee is chaired by Leyte Governor Petilla with Vice Governor Carlo P. Loreto as Co-Chairperson. The members include Atty. Edgardo Cordeno, the provincial administrator; Dr. Ofelia Absin, Provincial Health Officer II; Dr. Edgardo Daya, Provincial Health Officer I; Dr. Lesmes Lumen, Consultant for Public Health; Dr. Linda Teresa Astorga, Consultant for Hospital Administration; Mrs. Marichu Borja, Community Affairs Officer !V; Engr. Arvin Monge, Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer; Mrs. Vivian Claros, Provincial Social Welfare and Development Officer; Ms. Melchora Cawile, Provincial Population Officer; Mrs. Perlita Ripalda, Unit Head, MIS Office; Ms. Chinkee dela Cruz, Consultant; and Ms. Jesyn Kate N. Ramos, Unit Head, LTIPC.

The Committee shall conduct information, education and dissemination campaign in coordination with the Provincial Health Office and other offices within the Provincial Government, among others, on the vaccination program. It shall also mobilize necessary and available resources and tap the support of the socio-civic and private business sectors, and private and public agencies to generate more resources intended for the procurement, distribution and administration of COVID-19 Vaccine.

 

Finally, the Committee shall make recommendation on all matters pertinent to the procurement, storage, distribution, rollout and administration of the vaccines in the Province and the prioritization of those to be vaccinated and to monitor and take intensive efforts for the vaccination of qualified residents of Leyte.

Several sub-committees were also created, among which are the Sub-Committees on Pre-Screening of Vaccines, Onsite Vaccination, Post Vaccine Evaluation/Counsellling, Physical Arrangement, Transportation, Security, Public Information and Documentation, Information Technology, Logistics and Procurement, and Food for working personnel.

The sub-committees shall coordinate with their counterparts in the LGUs should the vaccination is done at the RHU/CHU or Provincial/District Hospitals. (PIA8)
