Maternal health care org leads National Buntis Day celeb

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union Feb 28 (PIA) – With the aim to promote maternal health care amidst the current coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-29) pandemic, a maternal health care organization  leads the celebration of the National Buntis Day from February 22 to March 10, here.

 

The organization is identified as the Philippine Obstetrical and Gynecological Society Foundation, Inc. or POGS Region 1 Chapter and will focus on this year’s theme: “Reaching out to Filipino Women in these Trying Times.”

 

According to POGS Region 1 President Dr. Unity H. Cortez, various activities are lined-up for expecting and lactating mothers, and also those who are planning to be pregnant.

 

Some of the activities include free ultrasound tests for high-risk pregnant women and pre-natal check ups, viewing of audio-video information and education campaign materials and will be highlighted by the Ginang Buntis National Pageant on March 10.

 

“We are also going to use the digital platform in reaching out to our beneficiaries, since we cannot provide face-to-face services yet but there are scheduled distribution of Buntis Kits to expecting mothers in the region,” Dr. Cortez added.

Further, she said that the advocacies are focused on ways how to decrease maternal mortality, address concerns on teenage pregnancy which now becoming a national social emergency, and the protection of the mother and child against environmental toxins.

 

Moreover, other activities that will be conducted are on adolescent reproductive health, and women and child protection from abuse.

 

In addition, Dr. Cortez said that a forum on how to maintain a pregnant woman’s beauty and body figure despite the occurrence of physical changes, will be assembled.

 

“Every woman is uniquely beautiful when they are pregnant, because there is something inside of them that makes them brave to face the challenges in life, and I attest that women who are pregnant are most beautiful on this stage of life,” Dr. Cortez said.

The celebration will be done in partnership with the Philippine Information Agency in the Ilocos, various regional line agencies, local government units, private and government hospitals, pharmaceutical companies, media entities and private individuals in the four provinces of the region.

 

She said that activities are also aligned with the celebration of the International Women’s Month in March 2021, which the organization is also active.

 

POGS is a premier organization composed of highly-competent Obstetrician-Gynecologists providing excellent reproductive health care established in 1946.
