CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Feb. 24 (PIA) – The National Nutrition Council (NNC)-10 has organized the second annual Regional Nutri-Webby Awards to recognize local government units (LGUs) or local nutrition committees (LNCs) in region 10 with highly visible and exemplar initiatives on promoting good nutrition for positive behavior change through posting of relevant contents in the social media, specifically Facebook.
A total of 18 LGUs submitted their registration, a 100 percent increase compared to the pilot run of the contest in 2020. This year’s registrants are Bukidnon, Misamis Occidental and Misamis Oriental Provinces; cities of Cagayan de Oro, Iligan, Malaybalay, Ozamiz, Tangub and Valencia; and the municipalities of Kadingilan, Libona, Sumilao, and Manolo Fortich in Bukidnon, Bacolod, Baroy, Lala, and Maigo in Lanao del Norte, and Claveria, Misamis Oriental.
A virtual meeting was held last Feb. 15 by NNC-10 to convene the participating LGUs and to level off understanding regarding the contest mechanics and criteria.
The contest will monitor Facebook Page analytics of various indicators such as page likes, relevant contents published, unique contents, post engagements, NNC X posts shared, and number of articles published and submitted. Contest duration is from February to October 2021.
The secretariat is tasked to monitor the analytics and share quarterly updates to the group for feedback.
Top three LGUs with the highest accumulated analytics will be awarded with plaque of recognition and cash award, while fourth to tenth placers will receive certificate of recognition and consolation prize. All the rest of the contest participants will be given certificate of participation. Winners will be awarded during the Regional Nutrition Awarding Ceremony.
Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator Gladys Mae S. Fernandez says, “Social media is a powerful tool to influence behavior change. The COVID-19 pandemic forced LGUs to limit face-to-face activities such as the conduct of nutrition education sessions, hence, local nutrition committees are encouraged to use social media, specially Facebook page, as one of the platforms to reach the audience in disseminating and promoting correct information on nutrition and health to influence positive behavior change.”
With the swelling number of users and contents in the social media, the contest encourages LGUs to manage effectively their Facebook Pages to disseminate local updates and relevant and correct nutrition information. (NO III Sheena Marie G. Talle)
