CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Feb. 24 (PIA) - A total of 3,382 pregnant women in Bukidnon have been identified by the National Nutrition Council (NNC)-10 as beneficiaries of its most recent Dietary Supplementation Program for nutritionally at risk pregnant women, ‘Tutok Kainan”.

These towns include Kadingilan (194), Kibawe (265), Libona (253), Manolo Fortich (416), Quezon (504), Sumilao (143), Malaybalay City (836) and Valencia City (771).

Stephanie Barrio, program coordinator shares, for pregnant women, level of supplementation per day is 400-700 kcal and 15-20 grams of protein. They are anticipating P40 daily food cost for women in the duration of 90 days.

The food commodity scheme will include Nutri-bun for the first month, meanwhile, iron fortified rice and viand for the 2nd month and then a combination of Nutri-bun plus Lipid-based Nutrient Supplement-Small Quantity (LNS-SQ) for the last month.

Meanwhile, they have also identified 1,679 children six to 23 months old for the "Tutok Kainan" in the same areas in Bukidnon to prevent stunting and improve their quality and quantity of food and nutrient intake.

For these children, NNC-10 will provide complementary food products from FNRI technology adapters for 180 days.

At the moment, Barrio said they have on-going coordination with recipient local government units (LGUs) and partner agencies/suppliers.

As to funds, Barrio clarified that although LGUs will be involved in technical and operation aspects specifically the Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS), procurement will be made at the national and regional level. Thus, there will be no downloading of funds to the recipient LGUs.

The program, ‘Tutok Kainan’ is support to the Early Childhood Care and Development- First 1000 Days (ECCD-F1K) Program which will implement, monitor and evaluate an integrated nutrition program that helps ensure delivery of complementary early childhood care and development services in the first 1,000 days pursuant to RA 11148.
