CITY OF ILAGAN, Isabela, Feb. 22 (PIA) - The Department of Education (DepEd) recently launched the Life-Saving Integration Geared Towards Addressing Impacts and Safety Through Achievement of Sustainable Goals Engaging Youth and Community Organization (LIGTAS TAYO) project in Cauayan City.

Dr. Benjamin Paragas, DepEd regional director said the Project LIGTAS TAYO is an innovative project conceptualized by Schools Division Superintendent Alfredo B. Gumaru Jr. and Cauayan City Mayor Bernard Faustino M. Dy aims to increase community awareness through integration of disaster risk reduction, knowledge and skills in various DepEd plans and projects including curriculum.

“This is the first project being launched in the region to address climate change and preparation for disasters. Schools are vehicle laboratories where teachers could instill the value of resiliency during disasters," he said.

Paragas said the project will be assessed after a year or two to include its impact in uplifting the learning outcomes.

The Officialdom of LGU Cauayan headed by Hon. Bernard Faustino M. Dy, city mayor, showed their support together with Barangay Captains of the greatly flooded areas in the city. The City Government initially allocated 3.7 Million to support the said project.
