Three farmer-associations get state-of-the-art farm machinery in Maasin City

MAASIN CITY, Feb. 27 (PIA) - - Three farmer- associations based in Maasin City get the state-of-the-art farm pieces of machinery under the Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Fund (RICEF) Mechanization Program.

According to Maasin City Mayor Nacional Mercado in his post, the three farmer-associations, namely, Libhu Farmer’s Association, Malapoc Norte Tinabangay Association, and Lunas United Farmer’s Association, all based in Maasin City were among the recipients of the said farm mechanization program.

Mayor Mercado called on the farmer-beneficiaries to exert careful use and provide proper maintenance to the pieces of machinery to achieve higher yield and low production cost.

He also underscored the opportunities to become globally competitive during the turn-over ceremony and distribution last February 11, 2021, at the Provincial Capitol Grounds.

The agricultural pieces of machinery received by Libhu Farmer’s Association were one unit four-wheel tractor, one unit hand tractor, one unit riding type rice transplanter, and one unit rice combine harvester.

The Malapoc Norte Tinabangay Association got one unit hand tractor and one unit walk-behind rice transplanter, while the Lunas United Farmer’s Association received one unit four-wheel tractor, four units hand tractor, three units floating tiller, three units walk-behind rice transplanter, and four units rice reaper.

He said that the Philippine Center for Postharvest Development and Mechanization (PhilMech) in partnership with the City Government of Maasin City and the Department of Agriculture – Regional Field Office 8 headed by Regional Executive Director Angel Enriquez also work closely with Provincial Governor Damian Mercado and Representative Roger Mercado for farm mechanization throughout the province.

The RICEF mechanization program is an offshoot of Republic Act 11203, which is principally authored by Senator Cynthia Villar. (nbq/esg/PIA8 SoLeyte)
