DAVAO CITY (PIA) – The Department of Health XI announced yesterday that about 43,000 doses of Coronavac-Sinovac are expected to arrive in Davao City soon and will complete the target number of health frontliners to be vaccinated in the region.

This was confirmed by DOH XI regional director Dr. Annabelle Yumang over the One Davao Virtual Presser saying that the region has already administered 28,350 vaccination or 77 percent since March 5 when the region had its ceremonial kick-off held at the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC).

As of March 24 (11AM), DOH XI reported that of the 53,600 doses received, about 36,800 or 68.66% have already been distributed to 166 vaccination site all over the region.

Yumang explained that the first batch of vaccines must all be administered to the healthcare workers before the government can move to the next category in the prioritization list which is the category for senior citizens.

“ We have 77,570 healthcare workers included in the masterlist. Of this number, we have already administered 28,350 individuals,” Yumang said.

Davao City has administered 97% of the 14,430 received doses; Davao de Oro with 66% of the 4,200 received doses; Davao del Norte with 59% of the 10,220 received doses; Davao del Sur with 73% of the 3,750 received doses; Davao Occidental with 45% of the 1,000 received doses; and Davao Oriental with 74% of the 3,200 received doses.

The DOH XI highlighted the need to follow the prioritization framework to maintain order and cater first those individuals according to exposure and vulnerability.

Yumang explained the importance of prioritizing healthcare workers. She said the country has to protect the healthcare system such that if a surge happens again, the country is ensured that the healthcare system is stable and can effectively serve those who need care and treatment.

The DOH XI is also preparing for the vaccination of the next category in the priority list, the senior citizens. She said the masterlist for the senior citizen category is currently being handled between the DOH and the DSWD. (PIA XI/Frances Mae Macapagat)
