PASIG CITY, March 31 (PIA) -- Marikina Mayor Marcelino "Marcy" Teodoro said at least 4,920 city health and medical frontline workers have received their COVID-19 vaccine, so far.
Mayor Marcy said they are yet to inoculate 2,880 more front-liners with the vaccines allotted to them by the national government.
Teodoro added that these healthcare workers are employed in small and large medical facilities operated by the public and private sector in the city.
"We are inoculating healthcare workers to protect our people within the health care system," Teodoro said.
Based on latest data by its City Health Office, Marikina has 1,486 active COVID-19 cases, the highest since the start of the pandemic last year.
"This is the highest number of cases that we are having since the start of the pandemic last year. When the year started in January, we only have 112 cases and when the month of March entered, we have 277 cases. Before the month ends, we are having 1,486 cases. So you could see it increased almost tenfold," Teodoro said.
He added that the city is being overwhelmed and struggling to do aggressive and proactive contact tracing and isolation.
"What we are doing now is what we call reverse isolation. There is a family clustering that is happening now. People get contaminated from their workplace and they bring home the virus and that's the lesson we are learning, that the virus knows no boundary. Exercise of caution is very necessary at this point in time," he added. (PIA NCR)
