CALOOCAN CITY, March 31 (PIA) -- Department of Health (DOH) Secretary Francisco Duque III on Tuesday lauded San Juan City's simultaneous vaccination of its remaining healthcare workers, senior citizens and adults with comorbidity during the Coordinated Operations to Defeat Epidemic (CODE) Team visit at the FilOil Flying V Centre (San Juan Arena).

“Ito po ang kauna-unahang simultaneous vaccination sa San Juan City sa ating bansa, at nakita ko pong maayos na maayos ang kanilang proseso at maaliwalas talaga ang lugar. Mahalaga itong simultaneous vaccination para mapabilis ang proseso natin ng pagbabakuna,” Sec. Duque said.

The rollout was observed by Sec. Duque III, IATF Deputy Chief Implementer for COVID-19 Response Secretary Vince Dizon, DOH Regional Dir. Gloria Balboa, and DOH Asst. Regional Dir. Paz Corrales.

Sec. Dizon also agreed with the DOH chief and said, what San Juan has done is the "first simultaneous vaccination" conducted for senior citizens, persons with comorbidities and the remaining medical fronltiners in the country.

Mayor Francis Zamora, for his part, took the CODE Team for a walkthrough of the vaccination process to give them an idea on the city’s program. Vaccinees who got the confirmatory text were the only ones admitted inside the vaccination center.

“We are happy that DOH Sec. Francisco Duque III, IATF Deputy Chief Implementer for COVID-19 Response Vince Dizon, DOH Regional Dir. Gloria Balboa, and DOH Asst. Regional Dir. Paz Corrales observed our vaccination program and saw our process,” Mayor Francis said.

This simultaneous vaccination of the remaining healthcare workers and the first batch of senior citizens and those with comorbidities has been allowed by the IATF to speed up the vaccination process. Prior to today’s event, several rounds of vaccine rollouts have been dedicated to medical frontliners.

The city aimed to vaccinate some 600-800 individuals on Tuesday and will continue even on Holy Week except on Good Friday.

Zamora acknowledged the healthcare workers, the country’s lingkod bayani, as well as the senior citizens and people with comorbidities for deciding to get vaccinated, saying that this will greatly help in the country’s fight against COVID-19.

So far, at least 160 senior citizens already received vaccines made by AstraZeneca, 64 healthcare workers and 43 adults with comorbidity were inoculated with SinoVac-made vaccines.

Since Tuesday, 300 health workers, 300 senior citizens, and 300 persons with comorbidities were given confirmatory text messages. However, since only 600-800 individuals on average arrive on the day of their scheduled vaccination, a contingency plan has been set in place to avoid vaccine wastage. A substitution list of people from A1, A2, and A3 prioritization list are on standby who can get the vaccine if and when those on the list fail to show up. (PIA NCR)
