CEBU CITY, March 2 (PIA) -- Good governance is the best weapon to solve insurgency issues, said Undersecretary Lorraine Badoy of Presidential Communications Operation Office (PCOO) during her recent meeting with officials from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD-7) here.

Badoy met with DSWD-7 officials to discuss the after-care interventions for the remaining six Indigenous Peoples (IP) minors under their custody.

DSWD-7 Regional Director Rebecca Geamala assured the PCOO official that they will come up with a comprehensive intervention plan for the welfare of these children.

“They will look into the needs of these children and coordinate with the other involved sectors on their plans for the IP minors who returned to their area in Davao del Norte,” Geamala said.

Badoy said the IP communities need the support and intervention of the government through the provision of basic services that will uplift their lives since they are the vulnerable sector targeted by the leftist groups.

On the other hand, Badoy also visited the four centers and residential care facilities of DSWD-7 located in Brgy. Labangon, Cebu City.

To date, the centers served 142 clients with the following breakdown: Regional Haven – 34; Home for Girls – 49; and Reception and Study Center for Children – 15 and Area Vocational Rehabilitation Center (AVRC) II – 44.

These centers and residential facilities provide intensive treatment for the rehabilitation of abused women and children.

It enhances their psychological, emotional, and psycho-social well-being.

The Reception and Study Center for Children (RSCC) is for abandoned, orphaned, abused, and exploited six-year-olds and below while the Home for Girls caters to sexually abused and exploited seven to 17- year-old girls, and the Regional Haven for Women.

Badoy, in her conversation with the children, encouraged them to move on with their lives and live it to the fullest to become responsible individuals.
She also advised them to follow the guidance of their house parents and social workers.

Badoy said her visit to the rehabilitation centers reminded her of the efforts and the services she rendered during her stint as undersecretary of DSWD.(hfg/pia7)
