TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan, March 1 (PIA) -- The number of births recorded in Cagayan Valley region is continuously decelerating as observed in the 2015-2020 Birth Statistics presented by the Philippine Statistics Authority Region 2.
Engr. Girme Bayucan, Chief Statistical specialist, said that the region's birth rate peaked in 2015 with 60,432 births. It scaled down to 56,630 in 2016, then 56,234 in 2017. It continued to decrease from 54,991 in 2018 to 53,001 in 2019.
In January to September 2020, there were 35,524 registered live births, which is 8.20 percent lower as compared to the 38,698 recorded in the same period in 2019.
Bayucan also presented that the number of late registrants goes with the birth rate trend in which 9.7 percent was recorded in 2015 and 2017, while 9.6 percent in 2016. It continuously decelerated in 2018 with 8.9 percent and 6.7 percent in 2019.
"One of the concerns we observed is the number of children born based on legitimacy status in a five year time. The trend for legitimate children is scaling down from 36,986 in 2015 to 31,243 in 2019, while the number of illegitimate born children is increasing from 20,242 to 21,758 in 2019," Bayucan said.
He added that there are 109 male newborn babies in every 100 female newborn babies in the Cagayan Valley region in 2019.
"In the 2019 data, which is the latest complete annual record, September was the month with the highest number of birth rates with 9.2 percent, followed by October with 9.1 percent and November with 8.8 percent," Bayucan said.
He also said that Isabela topped the areas with the most number of births registered in the first three quarters of 2020 with 45.9 percent, followed by Cagayan with 32.4 percent and Nueva Vizcaya with 15.8 percent,while Tuguegarao City topped the cities with the highest percentage of birth rates with 17.6 percent, followed by Santiago City with 14.2 percent.
