AMULUNG, Cagayan, April 1 (PIA) -- The construction of the P1.2 billion worth of Amulung bridge project has already started.

The one kilometer-long bridge project of 3rd District Representative Joseph "Jojo" Lara is designed to connect the eastern to the western sides of the town, which is divided by the Cagayan River.
The representative said that of the whole budget, P345 million worth of initial funds was already released to jumpstart the construction.
"To fast track the building of the bridge, we contracted two construction companies that are positioned in both sides. The construction will be meeting in the middle and, with this, we hope to complete the construction within this year," Lara said.
While the bridge is still being constructed, beneficiary residents have already expressed their gratitude as their long overdue dream of having a concrete and stable bridge will soon become a reality.
Abolo Punong Barangay Grace Abel-Reyes said that at present, they are using boats to transport their products out to the market places and to bring goods in their communities, which is very dangerous especially during rainy seasons when the Cagayan river often swells.
"We really need a bridge because our means of transportation at present is very much dangerous. There was a scenario back then when a boat capsized while crossing the river. Two student passengers were drowned and their remains were never found," Reyes added.
Wilma Dela Cruz and Erica Escobar, students, both expressed their gratitude for the project as they narrate the arduous situations they have been experiencing in crossing the river during classes days to fulfill their dreams of finishing their studies.
"We are very thankful to Congressman Lara for fulfilling our dream to have a bridge here. We are proud that we already have a concrete bridge, which is also a sign of development in our humble community," Dela Cruz said.
Meantime, Pacac Grande Punong Barangay Consuelo Buquing said they are very thankful for the bridge because despite Amulung West being just a very small community, they were given priority for a major project.
Buquing is also hopeful that it will be completed soon so that the agony of farmers and other community folk of crossing the river every time they need to travel outside of their villages will end. (MDCT/JCK/OTB/PIA-Cagayan)
